Flying Falcons Off to Fantastic 3-0 Start
On a beautiful Friday evening, playing a rescheduled game from earlier in the season, the Flying Falcons took to the field in Freehold to face Battle of Monmouth Blaze for the first time this season. The Falcons played wonderfully all evening. Sophie was everywhere the whole first half. Grace played strong defense and with the help of strong efforts from Shelly and Rebecca, helped keep the ball in the opposition’s half for the majority of the first half. The Falcons struck first when, 22 minutes into the game, Rebecca took a long corner kick that careened in for the 1-0 lead. The Falcons were still celebrating their lead, when three minutes later, in front of a busy Blaze goal, Marissa hit the ball into the net for the 2-0 lead. Ava hit a towering shot from 20 yards out that just missed the top of the crossbar and sailed over the top of the goal. Julia played a very aggressive game, keeping the Blaze off their stride. Rebecca hit a great ball with one minute left in the half, for the 3-0 lead.
Jenny barely had to touch the ball the whole first half. At half time, Coach Tom decided to have Jenny play on the front line and bring Sophie into the goal. Jenny did a great job playing a position that she doesn’t get to practice that often. She set up a great cross that nearly scored another goal. Ani played a great, very aggressive game. Sophie had several great stops on goal. With one minute left, Paige crossed the ball to Marissa who knocked the ball in for the 4-1 lead and the final score of the game. The Flying Falcons are now off to a fantastic 3-0 start.
