Flying Falcons Have Spectacular Day at Wall Fall Classic
Super Sunday for the Falcons

The Flying Falcons had a great day Sunday, winning both of their games against tough opponents. In the opening game, the Falcons faced off against the Maroons from Ridgefield, NJ. A few minutes into the game, Rebecca hit a towering shot from 20 yards out that flew into the top of the goal, for the first score of the game. The Maroons battled the Falcons all game. At the end of the first half, the score was 1-0.

Three minutes into the second half, Sophie hit a beautiful cross that landed right in front of the goal. Rebecca tapped the ball in for the 2-0 lead. The rest of the half saw both sides playing hard with great defense from Ani, Marissa, Marissa and Shelly. Jenny did a great job in the goal, stopping many Maroon advances. Paige had a great game, with several big contacts that kept the ball in Maroon territory. The game ended with the Falcons winning 2-0. Shelly was honored with the MVP medal for the game. The MVP medal is award by the coaches of the opposing team to a member of the Falcons who they feel was particularily outstanding. Saturday’s Falcon MVPs were Ava in game one and Julia in game two. Both Ava and Julia had spectacular games on Saturday.

In game two of Sunday’s schedule, the Falcons took to the field against Freehold. Under brilliant blue skies, the Falcons played great, right from the start. Eleven minutes into the game, Julia hit a towering ball from 20 yards out that sailed over the Freehold goalie’s head for the 1-0 lead. A few minutes later Rebecca hit a great ball to the front of the Freehold goal. Marissa Mancuso took the ball and slammed it into the goal for the 2-0 Falcons' lead. The Falcons played hard all game with everyone stepping up to contribute. Grace and Sophie were everywhere knocking balls down field. Emma hit a great headball that knocked back a Freehold advance. Eighteen minutes into the game, Ava hit a great pass to Maggie. Maggie leaned back and unwound with a towering shot from 25 yards out that sailed into the goal for the 3-0 lead. The half ended with that score.

The second half was a strong battle with both sides playing hard. Amanda had several great plays near the front of Freehold’s goal. Michelle had a great game running up and down the field on both offense and defense. Megan played hard the second half, even drawing a penalty for getting tripped, right in front of the Falcon parents. The game ended with the Falcons winning 3-0. The Freehold coaches decided to honor Grace with the MVP medal for the game.
